Hamburg, Lubeck and the other cities of the Hanseatic League brought the organ and the music written for it to levels as yet unheard of during the 17th century.   The greatest organists of the period from Scheidemann, Weckman and Tunder to Buxtehude and Reinken composed the most flamboyant music possible for it, whilst the name of Arp Schnitger alone symbolises the genius that inspired several generations of organ builders.   Bernard Foccroulle and Ricercar have in their turn chosen the finest of recently restored historic instruments for the evocation of this Golden Age.
