CHŒUR DE CHAMBRE DE NAMUR
RICERCAR CONSORT sous la direction de Philippe PIERLOT
The Grands motets by Du Mont that were written for Louis XIV's chapel were published by royal decree after Du Mont's death in 1684. Without being the inventor of the genre, Du Mont nevertheless gave this type of composition an exact and clear form. The motets call for two groups of singers, these being a petit chœur of soloists and a grand chœur with a larger number of voices. The orchestral accompaniment is for four or five parts and is intended for strings alone. The music associates the inheritance of a great polyphonic tradition with the declamatory style that Du Mont had introduced to France with his Cantica Sacra in 1652.
