Clarinet Concertos KJELL FAGÉUS
The Royal Orchestra Stockholm, conducted by Eri Klas
This unique recording of Mozart's Clarinet Concerto employs a basset clarinet instead of a conventional clarinet. In addition to Mozart, the recording features music by three Swedish composers: an aria by Bernard Crusell, sung by MariAnne Häggander, Lars-Erik Larsson's "Homage à Mozart" and a clarinet concerto by Gunnar de Frumerie.
Quite apart from the originality of the solo itself, this music is superbly played and that business of the basset clarinet imparts an extra dash of musical expression and historic interest. This recording has many qualities. In addition to the brilliance of both soloist and orchestra,, one appreciates the great care
with which the programme has been put together. (SvD)
