Judge OKs sale of Dorian music label.   Virginia recording studio, Sono Luminus Inc., to buy troubled company for $245,000.

A bankruptcy judge Wednesday approved the sale of The Dorian Group Ltd. to Virginia-based recording studio, Sono Luminus Inc., ending a lengthy Chapter 11 case that grew increasingly acrimonious.   U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Robert E. Littlefield Jr.'s order granted Sono Luminus Inc. title to the bulk of Dorian's assets - including artist contracts, master recordings, trademarks and accounts receivable - for $245,000.   Wednesday's proceedings were a formality of sorts, as litigants in the case had reached a consensus earlier in the month.   The deal was struck on June 7, 2005.

DORIAN'S "MOZART REQUIEM" WINS JUNO AWARD

DOR-90310 Cover
Mozart Requiem (DOR-90310) is the winner of the JUNO AWARD in the category of CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: VOCAL OR CHORAL PERFORMANCE.   The winners were announced last night at the Corel Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

Mozart Requiem is a state-of-the-art recording of the spectacular concert given by La Chapelle de Québec and Les Violons du Roy, under the direction of Bernard Labadie, at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, September 20th, 2001.   Since making its debut at No. 1 on the Classical charts in Canada, the disc has remained one of Dorian's top-selling CDs.

This release features Robert Levin's revelatory completion of the Requiem, left unfinished at the time of Mozart's death. La Chapelle de Quebec and Les Violons du Roy are joined by soloists Karina Gauvin, soprano, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, contralto, John Tessier, tenor and Nathan Berg, bass baritone.

Established in 1984 by Artistic Director Bernard Labadie, Les Violons du Roy are recognized internationally as one of today's finest chamber orchestras.   While their interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire demonstrate a deep understanding of historically informed performance practice, they achieve an entirely distinctive sound by performing Baroque music on modern instruments, using Baroque period bows.   Their recording of G. F. Handel: "Apollo e Dafne" & "Silete venti" (xCD-90288), with soprano Karina Gauvin and baritone Russell Braun, won a 2000 Juno Award in the category of Best Classical Album: Vocal or Choral Performance.

Bernard Labadie founded the chamber choir La Chapelle de Québec in 1985.   From its inception it has worked closely with Les Violons du Roy, performing major works for choir and orchestra, with a focus on the 18th Century.

Since 1988, The Dorian Group, Ltd. has engaged in the passionate pursuit of the ultimate blend of world-class performances and cutting-edge recording technology.   With more than 360 titles in the catalog, Dorian is known for its use of natural acoustical spaces such as its main venue, the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, where Dorian maintains permanent recording facilities.

DOR-93239 Cover DORIAN'S NEW MUSICA PACIFICA CD WINS 2003 CMA/WQXR AWARD

Telemann Chamber Cantatas and Trio Sonatas (DOR-93239), performed by Musica Pacifica, is one of six winners of this year's Chamber Music America/WQXR Record Awards.   The awards will be presented at the 25th Anniversary Marathon Concert on Saturday, January 18, 2003 at Symphony Space in New York City.   The ceremony will take place at 8:00 p.m. eastern time.   The disc will receive airplay on WQXR in late January, and will appear in a list of winners in Chamber Music magazine's March/April 2003 issue.

Telemann Chamber Cantatas and Trio Sonatas is a compelling selection of works composed during Telemann's first fifteen years in the employ of the City of Hamburg, an appointment he held from 1721 until his death in 1767.   Vocalists Christine Brandes, Soprano, and Jennifer Lane, Mezzo-Soprano, join forces with celebrated Baroque ensemble Musica Pacifica to present a CD that boldly illustrates the scope and power of Telemann's creative output as a composer of sacred music.

Led by artistic co-directors Judith Linsenberg (recorder) and Elizabeth Blumenstock (violin), Musica Pacifica (recorder, oboe, violin, cello/viola da gamba, harpsichord) has been performing, touring, and recording since 1990.   Mining a rich vein of Baroque literature for mixed wind/string ensemble, the group performs the spirited chamber concerti of Vivaldi and Telemann, colorful dance suites from the courts and opera houses of France, and the more intimate solo, duo, and trio sonatas from European countries as diverse as Scotland, Poland, Spain, and England.   Musica Pacifica has been described as "some of the finest baroque musicians in America" (American Record Guide) and "the crème de la crème" (Alte Musik Aktuell).   The artists are members of Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and American Bach Soloists, and perform with many other prominent early music ensembles across the country.   Musica Pacifica has released two other critically acclaimed CDs on the Dorian Recordings® label: Alessandro Scarlatti Concerti da Camera (DOR-93192), and Francesco Mancini: Concerti da Camera (DOR-93209).

DOR-90310 Cover DORIAN RECORDINGS® "MOZART REQUIEM" CONTINUES IN CANADIAN TOP 10

According to the October 31st SoundScan report, Dorian's Mozart Requiem (DOR-90310) is still one of the top-selling classical CDs in Canada.   Mozart Requiem is a state-of-the-art recording of the spectacular concert given by La Chapelle de Québec and Les Violons du Roy, Bernard Labadie, Conductor, at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, September 20th, 2001.   Although the program was planned months in advance, the music gained particular significance on this occasion.   Presented by Troy Chromatic Concerts, the performance was dedicated to the victims of the September 11th attacks.   On September 10th, 2002, the Mozart Requiem CD was released in North America and is available through regular distribution in more than 35 countries around the world.

This release features Robert Levin's revelatory completion of the Requiem, left unfinished at the time of Mozart's death.   La Chapelle de Quebec and Les Violons du Roy are joined by soloists Karina Gauvin, soprano, Marie-Nicole Lemieux, contralto (winner of the Grand Prize, Voice, of the 2000 Queen Elizabeth International Music Competition in Brussels), John Tessier, tenor and Nathan Berg, bass baritone.

Established in 1984 by Artistic Director Bernard Labadie, Les Violons du Roy have grown to be recognized internationally as one of today's finest chamber orchestras. The ensemble's vigorous performing schedule and numerous CBC broadcasts are helping to promote sales of all 11 of the ensemble's CDs on the Dorian Recordings label.

Bernard Labadie founded the chamber choir La Chapelle de Québec in 1985.   From its inception it has worked closely with Les Violons du Roy, performing major works for choir and orchestra, with a focus on the 18th Century.

Juno Awards Logo DORIAN RECORDINGS® CD NOMINATED FOR A JUNO AWARD

xCD-90297 Cover The xCDTM of J.S. Bach: Art of the Fugue, [xCD-90297] performed by Les Violons du Roy, conducted by Bernard Labadie, has been nominated for a Juno Award in the category of Best Classical Album: Large Ensemble or Soloist(s) with Large Ensemble Accompaniment.   The awards ceremony will be telecast live on Sunday, April 14 starting at 8 p.m.

Established in 1984 by Artistic Director Bernard Labadie, the Québec City-based fifteen-member ensemble, Les Violons du Roy, has grown to be recognized internationally as one of today's finest chamber orchestras - a group that always delivers performances of great beauty, freshness and energy.   While their interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire demonstrate a deep understanding of historically informed performance practice, they achieve an entirely distinctive sound by performing Baroque music on modern instruments, using Baroque period bows.   Their recording of G. F. Handel: "Apollo e Dafne" & "Silete venti" [xCD-90288] won a 2000 Juno Award, in the category of Best Classical Album: Vocal or Choral Performance.

Like The Well-Tempered Clavier and The Musical Offering, Art of the Fugue is a collection of profoundly expressive pieces, characteristic of Bach's boundless imagination and unequalled mastery of counterpoint.   These fugues are often dramatically charged pieces, highly original and individual in form.   One might choose to indulge in a few selections at a time, or to hear Art of the Fugue as an integral work. Either way, Bernard Labadie's arrangement reveals not only the structural ingenuity of this music, but also its passion and color.   A particular highlight of this version is Labadie's seamless completion of the final fugue, which was alleged to have been composed by Bach as he lay dying.
