This last volume of the series on Villa-Lobos' complete string quartets features one work from each of the periods in which Cuarteto Latinoamericano have divided the Brazilian master's quartets. Thus, quartet No. 4, belonging to the first six quartets, clearly Brazilian in their outlook. Quartet No. 9 is the last from the central period, marked by complexity in form and density of expression. Finally, Quartet No. 11, from the last eight quartets in the series, generally lighter in mood and in clear neo-classical vein. … Written in 1948 and dedicated to Mindinha, Quartet No. 11 was performed in 1953 by the Iacovino Quartet. - Juan Arturo Brennan
