DOR-93185 Cover

A particularly splendid period of Spanish keyboard music closed with the death of Juan Cabanilles in Valencia on 1712.   When he was born in Algemesí near Valencia in 1644, Sebastián Aguilera de Heredia had already been dead for seventeen years.   When he was only ten years old, Francisco Correa de Arauxo died.   Pablo Bruna and Jusepe Ximénez were respectively 33 and 44 years older than he.   In spite of the age differences, Cabanilles remains the last representative of an art that would die with him.

The Organ of the Church of San Pablo de Saragossa
The organ of the Church of San Pablo de Saragossa dates back to roughly the second half of the 15th Century, although it has received a number of updates and alterations since.   The latest and most complete restoration was undertaken in 1996, which restored the proper original Gothic proportioning known as the "Golden Number."   The result is an excellent example of the unique tonal qualities of the Spanish organs of the 16th Century and a perfect musical match to the repertoire on this CD.
