DOR-90200 Cover - 24251 Bytes When the cloven-hooved god Pan joined reeds of different lengths and so invented the flute which bears his name, he, in reality, created the organ.   Only a keyboard and a bellows need to be added to the flute to make one of those lovely instruments depicted by early painters in the hands of angels.   As it developed and gradually became the most grandiose of instruments, its tone modified and increased tenfold by the reverberation of the great cathedrals, the organ assumed a religious character.
