Music has always had the power to transcend the boundaries of religion, culture, geography, and ethnicity. This certainly was the case in medieval and Renaissance Spain, where music connected Christian, Jewish, and Islamic cultures in ways that resonate across the centuries. On this recording La Rondinella presents songs of the exiled Jews of Spain and music of the Spanish Renaissance. And while we do not include music of the Moslems who ruled the Iberian Peninsula for many centuries, their influence and legacy is nevertheless obvious.- Howard Bass
